Thomas L. Phillips
Thomas L. Phillips is the former chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Raytheon Corporation in Lexington, Massachusetts. He was elected chairman in May 1975, having previously served as president since 1964, and chief executive officer since 1968. Mr. Phillips retired as chairman and CEO in March 1991 and retired as a director of the company in April 2000. He joined Raytheon in 1948 as an electronics design engineer and later served as program manager of the Hawk ground-to-air and Sparrow III air-to-air guided missile systems and in 1960 was appointed general manager of the Missile and Space Division. During the 1960s and 70s he was the architect behind Raytheon’s diversification into commercial business. Mr. Phillips has had a long and distinguished career of service as a director on the boards of major corporations and non-profit organizations. He is a trustee of Gordon College in Wenham MA, a member of the Business Council and the National Academy of Engineering. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
