In Person & Livestreamed from the Performing Arts Center
Join us as we celebrate our nations 250th Anniversary with a year-long a series of monthly lectures celebrating God’s miraculous acts during our nation’s fight for Independence.

The Series, God of Our Fathers: Mighty Miracles of the American Revolution, will highlight key moments of divine intervention, or miracles that took place in that month during the Revolutionary War—remarkable stories of timely reinforcements, inexplicable weather events, and the unwavering perseverance of the patriots and militias against overwhelming odds are but some of the testimonies of God’s miraculous protection and heavenly guidance on America’s path to independence. The anniversary of the Declaration of Independence provides an opportunity to remember God’s call on this country, reflect on His providential miracles, and recognize those individuals who partnered with Him in securing our nation’s freedom.

God’s Miraculous Hand in the Battle of Cowpens and the Revolutionary War

In early 1781, American forces defeated the British at the Battle of Cowpens— a turning point in securing the south for the patriots. This presentation highlights the role of the weather, which repeatedly thwarted the British, as well as the relationship between Church and State as seen in the government’s Christian response to victories and other events during the war.

“We have … abundant reason to thank providence for its many favourable interpositions in our behalf—It has, at times been my only dependence, for all other resources seemed to have fail’d us.”
George Washington letter to William Gordon, 9 March 1781

The Winter at Valley Forge and the faith of George Washington

Presented by Dr. Peter Lillback
This sixth lecture in the America 250 series will highlight the miracle of Winter at Valley Forge (1777-1778). In particular, this talk will offer a study of George Washington’s reliance on God, and a defining moment of George Washington’s faith as he prayed and fasted in the snow at Valley Forge. George Washington demonstrated practically his faith in crisis. God heard his prayers and delivered George Washington and the troops from their endurance of incredible physical hardship and a spiritual trial. George Washington’s example raises a question – what do we say today about the question of separation of church and state?

Ten Crucial Days: Crossing the Delaware and the Battles of Trenton and Princeton

Presented by Roger Williams
In December 1776, General George Washington’s fledgling American Army and the cause of liberty were on the brink of collapse. The British believed that the American soldiers would not be able to mount a significant resistance. George Washington saw something very different and launched his forces into a series of victorious battles, of which British historian Sir George Otto Trevelyan later wrote, “It may be doubted whether so small a number of men ever employed so short a space of time with greater and more lasting effects upon the history of the world.”

Before they arrived at Plymouth, the Pilgrims arrived in the midst of the Nauset Tribe and spent a month exploring the Outer Cape. These pioneers were happy to leave the Church of England, just as their descendants, the American Patriots, were happy to leave the King of England six generations later.
