Douglas Prosser

Douglas Prosser received his Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance from the Eastman School of Music in 1985. Immediately upon completion of his studies he served as Principal Trumpet with the Colorado Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1987, having decided to pursue an orchestral career in Europe, Mr. Prosser won the position of Principal Trumpet of the City of Barcelona Symphony Orchestra in Barcelona, Spain. He was featured as a soloist on numerous occasions with the orchestra and gave the Catalan capital its premiere performance of Tomasi’s Arts Empowering Life 19 Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra. During Prosser’s eight-year tenure in Spain the orchestra launched an ambitious recording and touring project, putting Spain’s most innovative and avant-guard music on the world stage with CD recordings on the EMI Classics label, and performing throughout Europe and Asia. Douglas Prosser’s 26-year career as an orchestral trumpeter has included positions and performances with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Colorado Philharmonic, the Buffalo Philharmonic, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, where he currently holds the position of Principal Trumpet. Over the past two and half decades he has toured throughout Europe and Asia and America with concerts and master classes in Berlin, Stuttgart, Geneva, Basil, Vienna, Madrid, Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, New York, Boston, Denver, Baltimore, Washington DC, Campeche (Mexico), and Toronto. He currently combines his work with the RPO with a position at the Eastman School of Music as the Associate Professor of Trumpet. His work as a symphonic and chamber performer can be heard on recordings with the CBS Masterworks, EMI Classics, Harmonia Mundi, and Nonesuch labels.
