About the Lecture

The Battle of the Monongahela in July 1755 launched the military career of young George Washington during the French and Indian War. He fought alongside British General Edward Braddock when the French surprised them in an ambush attack. The British, including General Braddock, were being annihilated. Washington rode back and forth across the battle, delivering Braddock’s orders. Every officer on horseback, except Washington, was shot down. “But by the all-powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation…” he wrote in a letter to his brother after the battle.

Please join Bill Federer at a reception following the lecture.
